53rd Annual Grammy Awards Recap

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards were filled with many great performances and some surprise winners. Everyone can agree that “unpredictable” was the theme of the night as Lady Gaga started it off by wearing a cocoon down the red carpet. As for the awards itself, leading the pack with 10 nominations, Eminem came away with just 2 Grammys for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Solo Performance for “Not Afraid”. Viewers saw Lady Antebellum pick up the most Grammys (5), including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The biggest prize went to the underdog Arcade Fire as “The Suburbs” won Album of the Year but the biggest shocker came from newcomer Esperanza Spalding as she took home the Best New Artist award against heavyweights Drake and Justin Bieber. Before the ceremony was done we saw strong performances by B.o.B, Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae, and Eminem among others. It was an overall good night, even for The Recording Academy as The Grammys pulled in 26.6 million viewers setting the highest ratings since 2001. So how did our predictions stack up? An icy 1 for 4 as Song of the Year “Need You Now” was our lone winner down from a 2 out of 4 last year, womp womp. Either way it was an amazing night and a lot fresher than last year, so I guess we all win, thumbs up!
