Fashion Week Q&A With Celebrity Make-Up Artist Amanda Shackleton

Fall is here!!!….okay well not officially, but for me Fashion’s Night Out and New York City Fashion Week mark the beginning of the fall season. So good bye flip flops and hello knee high boots!!! As much as I love clothing, I have an absolute love for makeup too…smokey eyes, glossy lips, long lashes…I love it all. Since I’m not a beauty expert, we decided to tap into celebrity make-up artist Amanda Shackleton to get her beauty advice for the upcoming season. Amanda’s work has graced the pages of Vogue, Glamour, Modern Bride and Oprah to name a few and has worked with celebrities such as Martha Stewart, Josh Hartnett (so jealous!) and Sarah Michelle Gellar who by the way has a new show Ringer premiering tonight on the CW. As if all that doesn’t keep Amanda busy she also owns a media make-up training academy in New York City….but we don’t want to give you all the juicy info on her academy just yet…you’ll have to check back with us shortly and yup you might even get to see Amanda in action! Well don’t want to keep you waiting any longer, here’s our interview with makeup guru Amanda Shackleton:

UVN: ANY PLANS FOR FASHION’S NIGHT OUT?

AMANDA: Yes, I do have plans to hit some of the stores- Some of my faves are:

Anna Sui 113 – Greene Street New York NY 10012
Daryl K – 21 Bond Street New York NY NY
Marc Jacobs – 163 Mercer Street New York NY 10012
C.O. Bigelow – 414 Sixth Avenue Main Floor New York NY 10011
CHANEL – 15 East 57th Street New York NY 10022
Chloé – 850 Madison Avenue New York NY 10021

UVN: WILL YOU BE ATTENDING ANY SHOWS DURING NYC FASHION WEEK & COUTURE WEEK?

AMANDA: I use to do many of the shows in NYC and Milano for years. They were so much fun to work on and the energy is fun and electric.

Since opening my Make Up school 2 years ago-It is hard to be able to get to the shows. I do keep up faithfully with a lot of the designers and make up artist look and hair looks.

UVN: WHAT BEAUTY TRENDS WILL WE SEE ON THE RUNWAY?

AMANDA: Red lips are back-(I dont think they ever go out of style) and although there are many base colors for red-I think lips will be leaning toward a more plummy red as opposed to a classic blue red. The formulas are also a little bit lighter than the older opaque versions of Lip Stick. Making it more of an updated looking lip.

Color is also coming back to the eyes. Throw away the black and grey eye colors this season and smoke them up with green, blues and purples(be bold) .Keep the black eyeliner to a minimum and define your eyes with fluttery feathery lashes instead.

UVN: WHAT HAIR TRENDS ARE IN FOR THE SEASON?

AMANDA: There are quite a few and they very from the messy low maintence knotted pony tail-to the braided updo styles to the beautifully loose waved hair sets reminiscent of the 1940’s. Reds also been making a comeback as the hair color of choice. Its always a great sexy color for the fall.

UVN: WHATS THAT ONE BEAUTY ITEM YOU ALWAYS HAVE WITH YOU?

AMANDA: As far as some of my favorite products-I keep it pretty low key. Rose Bud salve is my #1 product to always have in my bag. Its great for everything-glossing up the skin, conditioning lips as well as endless other things.
